Gosh, even more critics' groups today! This one are announcing their nominees today, and their winners on Friday. There's a heck of a lot of support for Take Shelter from Detroit, evidently! And, as ever, I applaud some of their choices, and wish they'd made some of them very differently indeed. The Ryan Gosling love is thoroughly appreciated; isn't it such a shame that, for a second year in a row, he's probably going to be snubbed by the Academy? On the other hand, Felicity Jones? I mean, I like Felicity, and Like Crazy was a great film, but over Glenn Close? I can forgive Olivia Colman, because perhaps they hadn't seen the film, but it seems increasingly like critics' groups are overlooking Close because they weren't fans of the film. What a shame. Meanwhile, Patton Oswalt has appeared twice today in critics' groups' lists and Melissa McCarthy picks up yet more love.
