As with the London Critics' Circle, the VFCC honours filmmaking both internationally and domestically, a trait which it does not share with the Toronto Film Critics Association. Unlike the LCC, though, there's not quite so much to honour in the Canadian film industry in comparison to the British film industry. As a result, none of the main nominees here include Canadian films - they don't even include Canadian people, like potential nominee Ryan Gosling. Also absent is George Clooney, surprising mainly because of the apparent love for The Descendants - is this the first time Shailene Woodley has been nominated but not George Clooney?
