CANNES REVIEWS FOR JOHNNIE TO'S BLIND DETECTIVE

Cult Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To returns to Cannes with Blind Detective, starring Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng in their seventh collaboration.

The comedy, which stars Lau as a blind detective (wouldn't you know) schooling Cheng's police officer on his methods of crime-solving, is described by Neil Young as a 'punishingly overlong, overcooked confection' in The Hollywood Reporter. Kinder to To's film is Justin Chang at Variety, noting its likely appeal among To's international fans, although also stating that Blind Detective lacks the 'elegance and finesse of To's best recent work'.
