Special effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen died today, at age 92, in London. The famed SFX maestro was, and remains, one of the film industry's most revered artists behind the camera, and his iconic creations in pictures such as Jason and the Argonauts, One Million Years B.C. and Clash of the Titans. His famous stop-motion effects technique, referred to as 'Dynamation' by Harryhausen himself, became extremely popular and influential from the 1960s onwards. In 1992, AMPAS honoured him with the Gordon E. Sawyer Award for Technical Achievement for his contribution to special effects in movies.
