THE HANGOVER PART III NOW COMING OUT ON MAY 23

How's that for admitting defeat? Just over two weeks ahead of its scheduled release on the 24th, The Hangover Part III has been bumped up a day to the 23rd, a Thursday. They employed the same strategy two years ago with Part II, opening it on the Thursday prior to Memorial Day weekend, and the results were quite brilliant, but this time out, it's a very different scenario Warner Bros. are in. Part II faced only counterprogramming Kung Fu Panda 2, limited release The Tree of Life and holdover disappointment Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and was buoyed by the massive popularity of its predecessor. Part III faces direct competition from Fast & Furious 6 (coming off an insanely popular predecessor), counterprogramming from Epic, limited release Before Midnight and holdover and likely success story Star Trek Into Darkness, also serving as more direct competition than Pirates of the Caribbean ever did, and it also has to contend with Part II's poor reputation, and now a late-game release date shift. They're arguing that early screenings were 'sensational', but they obviously would. I'm arguing that the trailers are 'shit'.
