This novel was surely made for Jean-Pierre Jeunet to adapt it into a film, and no doubt he'll make fine use of 3D. But I got so tired of his self-conscious whimsy in Micmacs that I almost forgot just how brilliant some of his former films have been, and I'm not sure if this represents a step back in the right direction again. Visual design looks superb, though, with Thomas Hardmeier as DP and Aline Bonetto as production designer.
