Joe Letteri only worked as a visual effects supervisor on two films before his attentions turned to working for WETA Digital in 2001. Since then, he has ascended to the positions of Senior Visual Effects Supervisor and then Director of the company, which will be honoured with the Producers Guild of American 2014 Vanguard Award, with Letteri and the company's co-founder Peter Jackson also on the awards slate. Letteri has won four of seven Oscar nominations since his first WETA project, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, alongside a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy. And Peter Jackson is the recipient of two PGA awards himself. No doubt that this is a wise choice from the guild, wiser than most of their competitive award choices in recent years!
