AMERICAN HUSTLE WINS NEW YORK FILM CRITICS CIRCLE

An ever-expanding membership within the NYFCC has delivered what looks likely to be one of the season's weakest overall slates of winners. Consensus picks reign supreme, while fringe contenders have been shut out. The NYFCC have kicked off awards season with a disappointing, self-conscious set of choices which run contrary to critical opinion in 2013 by ignoring Gravity and 12 Years a Slave, save a Best Director award for Steve McQueen. Excuse me while I barf. Not another year of this shit. Runners-up may emerge in the coming hours, so do revisit this page to check if any have been added.

  1. Gravity draws blank, so bizarre. Underestimate David O. Russel at our own peril. American Hustle may be great. It must be good, at least. But Lawrence basking in glory, year after year, has gotten on my nerves. She was the runner-up last year at NYFCC, Best Actress, right. Damn. What she's achieving at her age is mind numbing. Cannot forget what happened last year. Now its guaranteed to receive nominations on all boards. Guess the not so rapturous reception is false and critics may very well champion i again. David O. Russel is all set grab double nods all over again. Every actor, producer, writer must be craving to work under him. Have enjoyed his films but the adulation has gotten too much. Academy just digs him. He's is certainly in this year. For Fighter, he took over Nolan's slot( was too disappointing); last year, Bigelow was sacrificed and this year, it looks like he's gonna be counted in before Scorcese and Payne. Feelings aside, Congrats, Russell. NYFCC top honour is really something.
Cheers for Blue is the Warmest Color and The Wind Rises.
