FEB 14-16 BOX OFFICE REPORT: LEGO BUILDS ON OPENING WITH GREAT SECOND FRAME

Two romantic-themed new released burned off a lot of demand on Valentine's Day over the weekend, though neither were quite as weak as a third. About Last Night bagged the top spot on Friday, but fell to a distant second to The LEGO Movie's commanding first place over the weekend entire. Over President's Day weekend, box office declines were light for all holdovers: LEGO dipped just 27.8% since last weekend, a tremendous hold even for an animated film, while mega-successes Ride Along (Kevin Hart's second film in the Top 6 this weekend) and Frozen each dropped by less than 10%. Another 80s remake, RoboCop, could only shuffle into third place, despite its $100 million budget, which it now undoubtedly won't recoup domestically. And yet another, Endless Love, posted a Friday gross so large that it's one of the most front-loaded opening weekends in box office history; fifth was all it could manage in the end. But even it performed much more strongly than Winter's Tale, whose pitiful seventh place start marks yet another bomb for lead Colin Farrell. Limited releases were few and far between, with the only one of much note being Arnaud Desplechin's Cannes competition pick from last year, Jimmy P., which made a miniscule $7,191 in one theatre.
