10 YEARS AT THE MOVIES: BEST FILM #4 - THE TURIN HORSE (AGNES HRANITZKY AND BELA TARR)

I wrote quite enough, I think, on the brilliance of Bela Tarr's direction and Agnes Hranitzky's co-direction of 2011's The Turin Horse in an earlier post - the best direction of the last ten years, and the film is the fourth best in that time. It's an astoundingly atmospheric, astonishingly artful film, more chilling than the bleakest horror film, yet without a single drop of blood spoilt, a single monster, a single jump scare. It's one of the defining pieces of cinema so far this century.
