CANNES CRITICS GO FOU FOR AMOUR FOU


Aaaand another female director knocks it out of the park at Cannes, and another male director falters. Compare the reactions to Jessica Hausner's Amour Fou to those to Atom Egoyan's The Captive, and then try not to imagine why Thierry Fremaux didn't want this one in competition. Then, as Justin Chang puts it, 'imagine a Jane Austen drawing-room comedy as directed by Michael Haneke and you're halfway there'.
