SEARCH ME: CANNES CRITICS UNIMPRESSED BY THE SEARCH

Thierry Fremaux's decision to include Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist in his 2011 competition lineup at Cannes was eventually validated by a Best Actor win for lead Jean Dujardin, and major American awards success later in the year. And also by the uniqueness of that film, and the respect it deservedly attained from critics and audiences alike (well, maybe not entirely). Such cannot be said for Hazanavicius' latest, The Search. Here are some rather rotten reactions from Todd McCarthy at The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Kennedy at Living in Cinema, Eric Kohn at IndieWire, Budd Wilkins at Slant, Peter Labuza at The Film Stage, Adam Woodward at Little White Lies, Barbara Scharres at RogerEbert.com, Oliver Lyttleton at The Playlist, Mike D'Angelo at The Dissolve and A. A. Dowd at The A. V Club.
