LIONSGATE PREPPING POWER RANGERS MOVIE AFTER NINJA TURTLES SUCCESS

It didn't seem to matter that four Transformers movies had all made major bank, to one degree or another, at the box office - expectations were nonetheless consistently low for Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. But, now that it has posted strong numbers, Lionsgate has acquired the rights to the TV / toy franchise Power Rangers, and has set a date: the 22nd of July 2016. Well, there you go. Tough shit. That'll be just a month and a half after the Ninja Turtles sequel, btw, and Power Rangers will go head-to-head with Guy Ritchie's King Arthur reboot - yes, another one, no, not as good as Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Or, perhaps King Arthur will get shifted around, just like Ritchie has shifted from one budding franchise (Sherlock Holmes, now apparently stalled for good) to another, and that his upcoming film, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. has been moved out of American Sniper's way by Warner Bros., in turn moving their Point Break remake (yup, another remake) out of its way. Get all that? No? You're better off for it.
