St. Vincent is one of The Weinstein Company's supposed big bids at Oscar glory this year (a Cannes preview with star Naomi Watts seemed to confirm this). They'll likely struggle to hit quite that high with Theodore Melfi's comedy, which most critics at TIFF seem to agree is carried mostly by the talents of its lead, Bill Murray. Here are some of their reviews: Tomas Hachard at The House Next Door, Gregory Ellwood at In Contention, Peter Debruge at Variety, Catherine Shoard at The Guardian, Todd McCarthy at The Hollywood Reporter and Eric Kohn at IndieWire.
