Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak looks like precisely what the Mexican auteur needs, after the commercial disappointment that was Pacific Rim. Makes sense to entrust the director of Pan's Labyrinth with budgets like that film had, but not so much to let him run rampant creatively with a summer action blockbuster. Audiences are much keener on his smaller fare, and Crimson Peak looks like the ideal vehicle for his particular style of filmmaking. Accordingly, a 16th of October release in both North America and the British Isles is on the cards for this promising Gothic horror film, which puts it in prime position to capitalise on both Hallowe'en box office and potential awards buzz later in the year, a la Pan's.
