THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER - TRAILER

Upon premiering at the Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti strand last September, word on actor Brady Corbet's directorial debut The Childhood of a Leader has been enormously divided - some hailing Corbet as one of the most promising young directors around, others deriding what they considered as pompous pretentiousness in his style. Corbet actually won the Luigi de Laurentiis award alongside the official jury's award for Best Director at Venice, though the film's journey to theatrical release has been long and slow, only having opened in its first territory, Sweden, a few days back, with no further openings confirmed. Not having seen it, my opinion on the quality of the film remains unformed, but I do have an opinion on this first trailer: it's ravishing, beguiling, a work of beauty and art all of its own. Give it a watch, and tell me you're not stoked to see which side of the critical divide you'll fall upon.
