FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM OSCAR RACE: 9 FILMS MOVE FORWARD

Check out the nine films which the Academy's Foreign Language Film committees have selected as the shortlist for nomination. As usual, there are some notable absences, such as Chile's Neruda and France's Elle. Happy to say that I called the inclusions of Land of Mine (possible winner) and Tanna (possible nominee), and delighted to note that My Life as a Courgette still stands a chance too! This is, however, a disappointingly Euro-centric list. Oscar nominations will be announced on the 24th of January.

It's Only the End of the World (Xavier Dolan) - Canada
The King's Choice (Erik Poppe) - Norway
Land of Mine (Martin Zandvliet) - Denmark
A Man Called Ove (Hannes Holm) - Sweden
My Life as a Courgette (Claude Barras) - Switzerland
Paradise (Andrey Konchalovskiy) - Russia
The Salesman (Asghar Farhadi) - Iran
Tanna (Martin Butler and Bentley Dean) - Australia
Toni Erdmann (Maren Ade) - Germany
