Interestingly, Best Picture is The Artist's only win. In a season still very much up in the air, this seems to be one category (and the most crucial) in which a consensus is forming - at least, among some of the minor critics' groups. Good news for Michael Shannon and Shailene Woodley after their SAG misses, and for Nick Nolte, on the back of BFCA and SAG nods. But goodness only knows what possessed this lot to vote Brit Marling as best actress of 2011. I mean, it's a fine performance, but little more. I feel the same way about Beginners winning Best Editing...And much as I may be happy that Michael Shannon has picked up an award here, I'm still fucked off that Michael Fassbender wasn't even nominated. Also some important wins for Harry Potter, Arthur Christmas' first win of the season, and another win for Emmanuel Lubezki.
