Some films clearly beginning to pick up serious heat now, or at least confirm their position as frontrunners. The Artist and Hugo may still not win come February, but they're the two films which have evidently caught the attention of the critics' groups thus far. Of course, things could still go belly up for both - we're only three groups into a season in which there will be nearly 40 in total. Also coming up strong are Albert Brooks for Drive (although there was strong support for Drive here...then again, perhaps there'll be equally strong support for it elsewhere) and Will Reiser for 50/50 (although this is exactly the kind of choice which could still miss out on an Oscar nomination a la The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and (500) Days of Summer). I wasn't sure if Octavia Spencer could win without Viola Davis also winning, yet that has happened here. Perhaps there's less chance of that happening at the Oscars, where there may be more sense of ceremony with their choices. Rango is also doing very well - 2/2 Animated Feature wins, as is Bridesmaids with its Ensemble Cast win, yet, as with Drive, there was strong support for that film here, so a win was probable. This also marks the first win for Michelle Williams in what may turn out to be many, and the first for The Skin I Live In, unfortunately. ;)
