BLOOD TIES UNRAVELS AT CANNES

It's over two and a half hours in duration and stars everyone you've ever heard of, but for the critics at Cannes, it's all rather too much. Guillaume Canet, he of being the lucky bastard by Marion Cotillard's side (after having been by Diane Kruger's!), has remade the 2008 film Rivals, in which he starred, to overwhelming but disappointing effect, according to critics.

Kevin Jagernauth at The Playlist praises the performances, but takes issue at the soundtrack, something which also irks Xan Brooks at The Guardian, who comes across rather brow-beaten by the experience. At Rope of Silicon, Brad Brevet has some suggestions for Canet, although too late indeed, and gives Blood Ties a C.
