OBIT - GILBERT TAYLOR


Double BAFTA nominated cinematographer Gilbert Taylor has died today, at age 99. He died at his home on the Isle of Wight. He began his career in the British film industry in 1929, and progressed from assistant camera operator to director of photography on 1948's The Guinea Pig. Among his many impressive credits are Ice Cold in Alex, Dr. Strangelove, A Hard Day's Night, Repulsion, Cul-de-Sac, The Tragedy of Macbeth, The Omen, Star Wars, John Badham's Dracula and Flash Gordon. He received the Lifetime Achievement award from the British Society of Cinematographers in 2001, having previously won a competitive award for The Omen, and he was given the American Society of Cinematographers' International Award in 2006.
