One of The Weinstein Company's biggest Oscar products this year, Grace of Monaco, which they gave a significant push to in Cannes, has been delayed to 2014. It will miss its scheduled debut of the 27th of November and will instead be released next Spring. Its Oscar hopes were already looking slim, what with the strong slate this year, including in the Best Actress category in which Nicole Kidman would have been contending. Perhaps the film isn't good enough - it wouldn't surprise me, Olivier Dahan isn't that good of a director - we've been informed that the film needs more time to be finished. A spring release suggests that TWC are giving up on any serious chances for Oscar consideration next year.
With Kidman out, Watts looking less and less likely, Winslet on borderline, Streep's quote unquote unknown status, best actress race is so much a changed affair than it was a month ago with the only constancy being the Blanchett leading the pack.
ReplyDeleteYeh, tho I was never rating either Nicole or Naomi's chances that highly, certainly not this year. So many strong contenders remaining in the race. Hoping it stays that way right up to the end!
