Andrea Arnold, one of the UK's finest directors and an Oscar and Cannes award-winner to boot, has been named as the first Filmmaker-in-Residence of the New York Film Festival. Her position will be to 'develop a new project via the festival's range of master classes, mentorships and film programmes', according to Guy Lodge at HitFix. I bet she'll be excellent in the influential role because she's excellent at everything she turns her hand to, as far as I can see.
