WHAT'S ON WEDNESDAY - SEP 13-15

Not a bad weekend for new releases, so here are some hot picks for your perusal:

IN A WORLD...

I'm totes excited to see Lake Bell's In a World..., which opened last month in the US and is opening in the UK on Friday. Reviews have been great, box office strong and the trailer excellent, so what's not to get excited about?

RUSH

Ron Howard's made some bloody shit films, but he's also made some bloody good ones, and this looks to be among the latter. Anthony Dod Mantle on cinematography, Frida Giannini and Massimiliano Giornetti on costumes, an R rating and the F1 subject matter. Hooray! A US rating next week, but UK this week.

WADJDA

This comes out in the US on Friday, and there are three big reasons why you should see it. One: it's the first film ever to be made entirely within Saudi Arabia. Two: it's the first film ever to be made by a Saudi woman, Haifaa al Mansour. Three: my good review

  1. Looking forward to your Rush review. Releasing earliest in UK. 23 reviews and still 100% at RT. Its bonkers. Ron Howard is out with all guns blazing this time. Should have a strong box office run even with an R-rating.

    1. It'll certainly be strong in the UK, and it's been given a big marketing push here. Limited opening in the US is a good idea - build buzz with strong per-theatre average and word-of-mouth plus critical praise into bigger wide release numbers. Gonna go see it tomorrow.
