French director and writer Edouard Molinaro died yesterday, the 7th of December 2013. He was 85. Known for his comedies, his international smash hit La Cage aux Folles in 1978 reaped him two Oscar nominations, one for Best Director and one for Best Adapted Screenplay. His 1996 film Beaumarchais the Scoundrel also brought him considerable attention, though in his later years his work in television became more prominent in his career, just as his earlier years were defined by his short films. His widow is the actor Marie-Helene Breillat.
