As a reminder of just how shit these Hobbit movies are compared to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, that song off of that Scottish one from The Return of the King plays over the trailer for part three of the new franchise, The Battle of the Five Armies. It's supposed to be a portentous, grandiose promo for the film, but I think it just falls flat. The Desolation of Smaug couldn't hang onto the Middle Earth series' mainstay Art Direction / Production Design nomination at the Oscars, and fell well short of the standard $300 million, despite being better than An Unexpected Journey, so don't go expecting much from this newly-titled installment. A 12th of December release in the UK, and 17th in the US.
