A shame that the only two female-helmed films competing for the Palme d'Or at Cannes this year should both be greeted with poor reviews. Indeed, Valerie Donzelli's entry, Marguerite & Julien, is drawing some of the very poorest of the festival so far, though not unanimously. It could be worse for Marguerite & Julien, if not much worse, so don't rule out some kind of prize haul this weekend.
