CANNES REPORT - HAYNES' CAROL


When a hotly-anticipated English-language feature from a director without a major Cannes history in their record appears on the main competition slate, it generally means one thing: it's a masterpiece. Pay even the slightest bit of attention to what the critics are saying about Carol, Todd Haynes' adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel The Price of Salt, and you'll know that this is one to consider in that very category. You are not ready for Todd Haynes and Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara! You can't take it!
