Kawase Naomi is something of a mainstay on the Croisette, so it's slightly surprising (and slightly more disappointing) to note this festival fave relegated to Un Certain Regard this year. Her new film An hasn't divided the crowd like last year's Still the Water, though its more middling overall response perhaps limits its chances of winning awards in comparison.
