CANNES REPORT - KUROSAWA'S JOURNEY TO THE SHORE

Kurosawa Kiyoshi has, since his J-horror days, somewhat struggled to find an audience for his films, even as critical praise has always followed him in some guise or another. His latest offering, Journey to the Shore, continues his trend of lukewarm dramas, if reviews are to be trusted, which critics claim to find melodramatic, though far from devoid of value. Signals are that it won't be a contender for awards from the Un Certain Regard jury, led by Isabella Rossellini, though don't count on anything just yet.
