The odds had Yorgos Lanthimos' The Lobster as the sight-unseen favourite to win the Palme d'Or, and the likelihood is now that those odds shorten. Critics aren't quite unanimously impressed by the black comedy - some note a slackening in interest into the film's final act - but there's admiration across the board nonetheless. Lanthimos' first English-language feature (a trend among Palme contenders this year) may ride this tide of goodwill to further awards buzz later in the year...
