CANNES REPORT - MORETTI'S MIA MADRE

A Cannes regular, Nanni Moretti virtually always has a shot at fighting for the Palme d'Or. Unlikely that he'll win the award again, after receiving it for 2001's The Son's Room, though many critics are hailing this year's Mia Madre as a return to form for Moretti. The response is mixed across the board - not quite strong enough to challenge some of this year's most formidable contenders, though far from the ignominy that some of the Italian's previous films have sunk to.
