Barbet Schroeder is regarded as a minor league legend in some circles, with more classic features in his canon than his reputation might indicate. His latest, Amnesia, brings the Swiss filmmaker back to relative prominence, following a seven year absence, though not in Cannes' main competition strand, alas. Critics have been surprisingly slow in catching up with the film, and overall undecided on its quality.
