CANNES REPORT - TRIER'S LOUDER THAN BOMBS


When a Palme d'Or contender suddenly becomes a potential hot ticket for the Screenplay award, you know something's gone wrong somewhere. Among the most fervently-anticipated English-language-from-foreign-directors films competing in the main selection at Cannes this year, Joachim Trier's Louder Than Bombs hasn't quite gone off with the expected bang. Some critics write very kindly of his English-language debut, while others express distinct disappointment at the underwhelming feature, which comes from one of the most critically acclaimed filmmakers in recent years.
