A long film deserves a long trailer! Miguel Gomes expands on the ambition he showed in spades with 2012's Tabu with Arabian Nights, the 6.5 hour semi-adaptation of the novel of the same name. You may have read about the controversy that saw Gomes cart the film off to Cannes 2015's Directors' Fortnight sidebar rather than choose to screen it in Un Certain Regard, having been refused a position in the main competition. Was that on one of Thierry Fremaux's whims, or was he wary of the film's length in the fest's main programme?
