THE ACADEMY NARROWS ITS FOREIGN LANGUAGE 2015 LIST DOWN TO 9

...and the overwhelming favourite to win remains in play. Nemes Laszlo's Son of Saul will have to make it past eight other films in the race to win the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar - eight others which, alongside itself, have been narrowed down to form this final shortlist prior to the nominations announcement on the 14th of January. As usual, this list is a mix of the expected and the unexpected, and the big story surrounds more the films that missed than those that made it: big contenders like Sweden's A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence, Austria's Goodnight Mommy and, my personal choice, The Assassin (RIP <3). The full list of titles still in the race is below:

The Brand New Testament (Jaco van Dormael) - Belgium
Embrace of the Serpent (Ciro Guerra) - Colombia
The Fencer (Klaus Haro) - Finland
Labyrinth of Lies (Giulio Ricciarelli) - Germany
Mustang (Deniz Gamze Erguven) - France
Son of Saul (Nemes Laszlo) - Hungary
Theeb (Naji Abu Nowar) - Jordan
Viva (Paddy Breathnach) - Ireland
A War (Tobias Lindholm) - Denmark
