KANSAS CITY CRITICS GO TO MANCHESTER BY THE SEA

Despite being one of the most popular films with critics this awards season, Manchester by the Sea has struggled to pick up Best Picture awards. Not so now, what with the Kansas City Film Critics Circle naming Kenneth Lonergan's ensemble drama their favourite film of 2016. The historic Kansas City based group broke from formula with their list of top ten films from which this winner was decided too, though the remainder of their awards were rather more ordinary. KANSAS CITY FILM CRITICS CIRCLE'S TOP 10 FILMS OF 2016

The Kansas City Film Critics Circle won't reveal its 2016 award winners until the 18th of December, but until then, you can mull over their top ten films of the year. It's the only slate of nominees announced by the circle, who'll otherwise simply declare winners for the remainder of their categories. With the same films turning up near everywhere so far this season up top, it's interesting to note the differences among the apparent filler entries, as you'll see below...

KANSAS CITY FILM CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD BEST PICTURE TO MAD MAX

The nominations for the Kansas City Film Critics Circle awards were, surprisingly, led by Sicario, but Denis Villeneuve's film failed to win in any of its five categories when award winners were declared today. Critics fave Mad Max: Fury Road took Best Picture, Director and - in a minor shock not unlike this group - Best Actress, making it the clear favourite among the KCFCC. SICARIO EARNS FIVE KANSAS CITY FILM CRITICS CIRCLE NOMINATIONS

The Kansas City Film Critics Circle has announced nominees for their 2015 awards. In another round of the 'Let's Pretend Carol Doesn't Exist' game, the group snubs one of the major critical successes of the year in the top two categories. Instead, Room picks up a Best Picture nomination despite oddly missing out on a Best Actress mention, and Sicario tops all films with five nominations.
