MOONLIGHT SWEEPS ONLINE FILM CRITICS SOCIETY AWARDS

Ok, so four wins isn't quite a sweep, not least when it had the potential for considerably more. But four top awards from the Online Film Critics Society is a pretty impressive haul for Moonlight, particularly when coming up against some tough competition! 2016 ONLINE FILM CRITICS SOCIETY NOMINATIONS

For we few weirdos who endure nine months of the year awaiting the commencement of awards season, the end of that year is often accompanied by a tinge of disappointment - the bulk of that busiest period within the season, the critics' awards phase, is over for the most part. So it's with much satisfaction that we should receive a post-Christmas treat each year in the form of the Online Film Critics Society awards. Their 2016 nominations have just been announced, and they're as reliably solid as ever they are. Winners will be declared on the 3rd of January.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD WINS FOUR ONLINE FILM CRITICS SOCIETY AWARDS

The Online Film Critics Society's nominations last week marked one of the brighter spots in this early stage of awards season 2015-16. They found room to honour great filmmaking from the year then, which they've continued into today's awards: Mad Max: Fury Road winning Best Picture and Director among other honours, acting awards being spread around lesser-celebrated contenders, and Foreign Language Film most deservedly going to The Assassin.
