The Dublin Film Critics Circle's bonkers list is interesting at just about every turn. Unlike, say, the London Critics' Circle, the DFCC seems to take the release date of its choices seriously, meaning that some of last year's big hitters, like The Artist and Martha Marcy May Marlene, appear here. Similarly, some of this year's big hitters, like Zero Dark Thirty and Lincoln, are absent. Lots of ties, and their lists of films which just missed appearing in their top fives have been arranged into alphabetical order here, having initially been reported in a random order that suggests an order of preference. Some brilliant picks, with some of the season's best in every single category, so this is, overall, a most admirable collection. But some unusual picks too, such as The Avengers and The Raid, and the fact that the Best Film and Director lists have notable differences. Indeed, The Artist wins Best Film and is barely mentioned elsewhere. Jennifer Lawrence still manages to sneak into Best Actress, and I can't explain Michael Fassbender's fifth place finish in Best Actor - did they just forget it wasn't eligible last year?
Top of the morning to these lads!
ReplyDeleteLast year I fought with every snobby blogger under the sun for THE ARTIST, which was my favorite film of them all for 20111 even though I adored A TREE OF LIFE.
Looks like some SERIOUS fans here!
I think they were drunk when they made these choices.
DeleteI can say that cos I'm Irish.
I'd say it even if I wasn't.
