The Academy has chosen nine films from a selection of 71 to compete for official nominations on the 10th of January. Et voila!
- Amour - Austria
- Beyond the Hills - Romania
- The Deep - Iceland
- The Intouchables - France
- Kon-Tiki - Norway
- No - Chile
- A Royal Affair - Denmark
- Sister - Switzerland
- War Witch - Canada
Two committees arrived at these nine: the Phase 1 committee, comprised of several hundred Academy members, and the Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee. The Phase 1 lot chose six (The Intouchables was on that one, you can bet), the Executive Committee chose the other three (Beyond the Hills was on that one, you can bet). They saw all 71 eligible films, and specially invited committees will see all nine of these before choosing their final five. Similarly, anyone who will vote for the eventual award will have seen all five nominated films.
I have my fingers crossed fro WAR WITCH, which for me is absolutely one of the best films of 2012 full circle!!!
ReplyDeleteObviously AMOUR and A ROYAL AFFAIR are sure bets.
THE INTOUCHABLES is overrated.

Yes, but it's also a sure bet. I've thought it would win for months, and I still do. Back when virtually no-one else was considering it for the win, I thought it'd pull it off.
DeleteI think it's Amour
