My oh my, the San Diego Film Critics Society sure didn't like Lincoln! Only two nominations for Steven Spielberg's film. Life of Pi proves that it still has some life left in it, although a Best Film snub doesn't help its case much. The Animated Film selections are standard - why is it that critics' groups make such uninspiring choices in this category, when they're the ones who are supposedly seeing all the obscure, foreign animations which never make it out of the arthouses? The Academy's animated picks are almost always much better. Django fares well, Helen Hunt gets bumped up to lead, Denzel is replaced by Bradley Cooper and The Perks of Being a Wallflower performs well with another critics' group. The preposterous Original Screenplay category omits Zero Dark Thirty (not a lot of love for it here, it may yet win big, though) in favour of The Cabin in the Woods. Pardon me while I vomit. Winners will be announced tomorrow.
