Life of Pi and Brave dominate the VES' winners this year, with Brave winning in every animated category and Life of Pi missing only one of its nominations (Created Environment). This means that other films barely have a look in, although The Impossible is a very good choice for Supporting Visual Effects, and I was rooting for Life of Pi and Brave anyway. Nominations from last month.

Riva, Tarantino/Haneke and Kushner could be spoilers in actress, original & adapted screenplay respectively.
Supporting actor category is still up in the air.
What makes it even harder is the fact that all are previous winners.
Apparently, Alan Arkin has rather slim chances.
Philip Seymour Hoffman won Critics choice.
Christoph Waltz won Globe.
Robert De Niro won discretionary best supporting from AACTA international.
Tommy Lee Jones won SAG.
Does the SAG win for Tommy Lee Jones makes him a frontrunner now?
Can we expect some surprises in this category?

Tommy Lee Jones is probably the frontrunner, yes, particularly if the Academy likes Lincoln more than the guilds. But I expect Robert De Niro to spoil, potentially. The buzz is around him currently, and ballots are sent out tomorrow. Christoph Waltz could win too. I don't rate Philip Seymour Hoffman's chances very high atm.
DeleteYep, LIFE OF PI is my own personal choice for this category, and it's the one I am predicting to win.
