At this point in awards season, few surprises occur. The Academy are much more likely to throw us a curveball than any of the guilds, once we're this far into February. All three of these winners were the favourites for their respective awards, although Mark Boal and Chris Terrio will both face stiff competition on Sunday: Boal from Quentin Tarantino and Michael Haneke (neither nominated here), Terrio from Tony Kushner and David O. Russell. Unsurprising choices these may be, but both screenplay races remain open for the taking.
Woohooo go Zero Dark Thirty. I hope it wins at the Oscars too (original screenplay, editing and actress). Phenomenal movie!
ReplyDeleteIt was a predictable win, but a good one too. A rebuff to its critics.
DeleteIt will be a close call between BOAL and HANEKE, though if I had to bet I'd probably go with Boal.
ReplyDeleteYou think? That'd be cool! I'm rooting for Michael Haneke, but a win for Mark Boal would be great after all the mud he's had slung at him.
DeleteI still think it's Haneke vs. Tarantino. Hope Tarantino doesn't win. Not that Django was a bad film, just that there were some major flaws, and he's partly to blame.
