Ask not why Josh Brolin is climbing out of a trunk in the middle of a field. Ask why Spike Lee and Mark Protosevich are remaking Park Chan Wook's classic.
Have massive respect for Park Chan-wook's original vision. It was perfect in every context and content, the mood, tone, drama, action, gore, and the heartbreak. The cinematic achievement is unparalleled. With so fewer original ideas hovering around Hollywood nowadays, the remake of a classic is certainly the last thing it needs. But who are we? Spike Lee has taken up a monumental challenge to say the least even though he may be the right person and FilmDistrict, the right distribution company to bring it to the American audience. And if Josh Brolin, no offense on his talents, turns in half the performance gave by Min-sik Choi, he would be a strong non-Academy-awards contender.

I'm certainly intrigued to see what this'll turn out like. Mark Protosevich is a bad sign though.
