Universal have held the life rights to Lou Zamperini since 1957, but are only now getting on to it. Zamperini was a pilot in WWII, whose plane crashed in the Pacific in 1943, leaving him stranded before being captured and tortured by the Japanese for two years. Life of Pi it ain't. British actor Jack O'Connell won the role over actors such as Dane DeHaan and Aaron Johnson. Angelina Jolie is set to direct, her sophomore effort after In the Land of Blood and Honey. The script, which has been worked on by names such as William Nicholson, Richard LaGravenese and the Coen brothers, is based on the Laura Hillenbrand book 'Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption'. You may know Hillenbrand's name as she wrote 'Seabiscuit', on which the 2003 film was based.
