Word has been so quiet on the Foxcatcher front lately that some were suggesting it might be pushed back to 2014. Not so, as the film (which is still in post-production) has been announcd by Sony Pictures Classics for a 20th of December release in the US, just in time to qualify for the Oscars. To me, it looks like the kind of late-game contender which doesn't get nearly the attention it deserved, getting lost amid the swarm of Oscar bait mid-December. Bennett Miller has done a fine job bringing true-life stories to the screen before, and his last true-crime film, Capote, was multi-Oscar-nominated, including Best Picture, Director and Adapted Screenplay (for Foxcatcher's co-writer Dan Futterman) nominations and a Best Actor win for Philip Seymour Hoffman.
