The beautiful and brilliant American actor Julie Harris died yesterday, the 24th of August, at age 87. She died of congestive heart failure at her home in West Chatham, Massachusetts. Her extraordinary and varied career was laden with accolades: an Oscar nomination for her debut film performance, in The Member of the Wedding, A Kennedy Centre Honour, a record-breaking five Tony award wins (plus a Lifetime Achievement award winner) and a Grammy award for the audio recording of her one-woman play The Belle of Amherst. The original Sally Bowles, her film credits included East of Eden (alongside friend James Dean), The Haunting, Gorillas in the Mist and another fantastic performance in John Huston's Reflections in a Golden Eye. She will be best known to many for her role as Lilimae Clements in Knot's Landing. Julie is survived by her son Peter Gurian, and will be missed by many across the world.
