Still have high hopes for it. 33% at RT right now with 12 reviews in, hurtful.
Am gonna assume you've already read about Wolf of Wall Street's run time. Pumped up for it. Anything of any time length from Scorcese is gold. Third poster is pretty cool, http://www.impawards.com/2013/posters/wolf_of_wall_street.jpg.

You probably don't care. Liked End of Watch more than some, was real good watch. But this doesn't look too good. OK trailer.
And recently got to see Prisoners. Damn. Great film imo. Villeneuve's careful and detailed direction effectively captures the mood, atmosphere and predicament of the situation. Pleasantly surprised by how great the performances were, from all the board. Former(who as you quoted never overdoes the role which could 've easily gone otherwise) and Gylllenhal just kills it. Jackman has some word out there but why aren't we hearing more about Gyllenhal in supporting except that Hollywood film award. Thought he nailed the role. Does he has any chance? And Deakins' cinematography virtually adds a dimension transcending a very good film to great.
Thanks for those links. I'll get onto those as soon as my laptop comes back from being repaired.
DeleteHeard about The Wolf of Wall Street being three hours long. Apparently that's Scorsese's longest, and there's some worry about what that might mean for its potential appeal with audiences. I say that's nonsense. He's so popular and has made plenty of other long films before (Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Aviator).
Glad you liked Prisoners. I expect it could make more of a splash with several awards bodies than people are currently predicting. Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal both have very realistic shots at nominations from a good few sources.
Oh. Hoping for a speedy recovery of your laptop. Pleasure as always. Thanks.
DeleteSo am I lol! I'm so rough with it!
DeleteIndependent Spirit Awards' nominees -
ReplyDeletehttp://www.filmindependent.org/blogs/spirit-awards-nominees-are-announced-excitement-ensues/#.UpTsEfs-3IU
The season finally begins with Spirit Indies, earliest to announce and are completely forgotten by the time the awards are announced. 12 Years a Slave marks the beginning of what would likely reflect the rest of the season domination. Nebraska got 6 nods. It will be in conversation. Academy loves Payne. He's not to be taken lightly.
Six best actor nominations, this year's best actor race is one kill pill.
And a shout out to Blue is the Warmest Color.
Hooray for 12 Years a Slave! I forget, have you seen it yet? You likely know how much I loved it already.
DeleteThe Spirit awards are forgotten about until right before Oscar time, since they announce their awards on the eve of the Oscar ceremony. I think they don't want to be seen as being too connected to the Oscar race, or at least their administration doesn't want that, and so distance themselves from the normal season dates, and position their ceremony after voting has closed and as a kind of middle finger to the industry. Shame their voters seem to want them to be like a mini Academy, at least these last two years, with wins for The Artist and Silver Linings Playbook.
Hopefully, for Nebraska, the love here will translate into further love next week and thereon. That doesn't always happen with the Spirit awards, but it feels like this is a boost for Alexander Payne's film at a time when it might need one.
Agreed.. Haven't seen 12 Years a Slave yet, brother. Reckon it will be a long wait along with Blue is the Warmest Color. So unfortunate. But you know the feeling that its gonna be great already helps in the long wait.
ReplyDeleteAlways! That was the case with Gravity for me.
