WHAT'S ON WEDNESDAY - NOV 15-17

So much to see at the cinema this weekend! A few suggestions:

FAUST

Bloody hell, it's sure taken an age to get Aleksandr Sokurov's 2011 Venice Golden Lion winner Faust to screens in the US. Sokurov's inimitable hazy style has rarely been put to such effective use. A slightly baffling, in fact quite bewildering, but utterly mesmerising retelling of Faust, with beautiful cinematography from Bruno Delbonnel.

NEBRASKA

Another film opening in limited release in the US this weekend, prior to its UK release on the 6th of December. Bruce Dern has received excellent reviews for his performance in Alexander Payne's latest film, and won the Best Actor prize at Cannes in May. It could be one of this year's fiercest Oscar contenders.

LEE DANIELS' THE BUTLER

At long fucking last, Lee Daniels' The Butler is being released in the UK this Friday, almost a full three months after its release in the US, since which time it has earned over $115 million on that side of the Atlantic. I'll be seeing it this weekend. Will I see you there? No. And if I do I won't make eye contact cos I'm practically autistic.
