WHAT'S ON WEDNESDAY - NOV 8-10

All sorts of films to see at the cinema this weekend! Here's a small selection.

AT BERKELEY

I saw Frederick Wiseman's excellent documentary At Berkeley at the London Film Festival last month. It's over four hours long, and worth every moment of those hours. A marvellous examination of the practices and purposes of UC Berkeley, it has drawn some of the strongest notices in Wiseman's long and celebrated career. You can see it from Friday in select theatres in the US.

GRAVITY

I could hardly be more perplexed by the decision to release Gravity in the UK as one of its final international marketplaces, but let's not get into the reasons why now. Let's get into the terrific reviews (96 on Metacritic), the superb box office performance (headed for over $600 million worldwide), and the fact that it's finally out in the UK tomorrow! Make sure you see it in 3D, as most audience members have done in other nations.

THE ARMSTRONG LIE

What a knob Lance Armstrong is. Alex Gibney was making a documentary about the disgraced sportsman and his miraculous rise back to the top of the cycling world after suffering from cancer. And then Gibney, and the rest of us, discovered the truth. And now we have a rather different doc from Gibney on the matter. Out on Friday in the US.
